The infielders flash signs
to the outfielders about the next pitch. The outfielders can get
a jump on a batted ball if they know what pitch is coming. They
can anticipate a pulled ball or an opposite field hit if they know what
pitch is coming. Of course, you can't move so soon that you tip
off the batter. Softball, like baseball, is a game of
percentages, concentration and anticipation. Good fielders don't
stand around waiting for the next pitch. They're constantly
reviewing the situation and what they will do in various
scenarios. The game seems simple but it has so many facets that
will be reacted to differently with each pitch.
