I've never played
soccer. I guess it shows. When I was young, that sport just
wasn't
available. Old? I'm old enough to remember when they
brought fire to our
village. It was my uncle, I recall, who invented dirt.
Anyway, I'm
learning about this sport and how difficult it is to
photograph.
Baseball and football are more predictable. Basketball is played
on
such a small area that it is easy to photograph. I'm tempted to
simply
concentrate my camera on the soccer goal but I'm old school enough to
believe
that soccer is one of those sports where what a player does away from
the goal
is important. One of my old basketball coaches used to teach that
the
man you were guarding was dangerous without the ball—and most
dangerous right after he'd passed the ball. Soccer appears
to be similar.
Live soccer is nothing like the televised English Premier League I
enjoy. (Manchester United if you ask—Wayne Rooney's off the field
life appears just Farshimmelt enough to mistake him for an American
athlete) Live soccer is much more exciting. I've tried to
photograph away from the goal as much as possible. Any comments
or
suggestions (except one that includes telling me to be a better
photographer) would be appreciated. I am not affiliated with
UWF. Pensacola110.com is my attempt to show the positive side of
the Emerald Coast. We write a lot about UWF because we know a
good thing when we see it.
