UWF defeated Spring Hill College 4-0.  It  was the final game of the regular season for UWF (19-0-1). It was the final home game for Spring Hill (10-6-1).  Spring Hill is a small (1100 enrollment) Jesuit college in Mobile.  The campus  is beautiful and includes a golf course.  From  the campus police officer who supplied directions to the athletic director I met on the sidelines, it may have been the friendliest campus I've visited.   The soccer field is called Library Field and you could watch the games from the steps of the library.  The field is surrounded by huge live oaks.  The setting is very picturesque—it's sort of like the best of our Old South tradition and the Ivy League mixed together.

If athletics are meant to showcase the positive aspects of colleges and universities, both Spring Hill and UWF are on the right track.  This particular match was hard fought and sportsmanlike.  Both teams are in the midst of record seeking seasons.  And the best is yet to come.  Between them, the two schools have only 5 seniors.  Granted, these players won't be easily replaced but the nucleus is there for even more success in the future.

The soccer photos on this site would be best viewed in a slideshow format.  If you're interested in printing these photos, they have been compressed to aid them in being loaded faster—I still might have some of the uncompressed masters.  Most of them are around 2 MB and would be more suitable for printing.  As always, photos are free of charge.

Somehow, she didn't injure her ankle or knee on this play!

Sometimes you just have to hold on!

That's the library in the background.

One of UWF's best forwards looks like she could double as a flyweight champion in the ring!  More careful analysis of this photo and the ones
that followed convinces me that this is another illusion.  The ball has struck the player in white and she is reacting to that, not a punch.
