| It has been fun photographing
the UWF athletic teams. UWF is a true asset to the
community.
A top notch academic institution, UWF involves itself in the community
and has proven to be a real class act. Nothing illustrates this
more than the athletic program. I started out wanting to get a
few shots of the baseball, softball and soccer teams for this web site.
I also figured to get a little photography practice for my real
interest—wildlife photography. I got hooked. The young
people I've observed have displayed all of those things you look for in
athletic competition—skill, hard work and sportsmanship. They
seem to enjoy what they're doing. The next time you get a little
concerned about the nation's future citizens, take in a UWF athletic
contest. I'll steal a title from a vintage rock band and
simply say: "The Kids Are Alright." Check out the UWF
athletic website UWF Athletics
or the university website UWF The photos on this site are compressed and designed for viewing on the Internet. However, the best way to view them is as a slideshow. Hopefully, you can capture them from this site and create a slideshow. I believe you can use the Windows XP Preview Feature to accomplish it. If you're using a Mac, simply use iPhoto. Drag the photos to an album and click on the slideshow button, select music and other features and enjoy. Make sure you use the full screen for the best effect. You can also turn these stills into a Quicktime movie format. Consider disabling the "Ken Burns Effect" if it is offered on the program you use for the slideshow. This effect is great for TV documentaries but for soccer or baseball it tends to cut off important parts of the scene (like the ball and people's heads). All together, I have over 400 total photos from this year's home games. I don't purport that they represent great photography. Soccer is not easy to photograph. These photos make an interesting slideshow "retrospective" of the season. I'm not sure I'll be able to photograph the conference tournament or the NCAA tournament. (This website contains some of the shots I made for some Tampa parents and players at last year's NCAA Championship). I may photograph one of the remaining away games if time permits. If I do photograph more games, I will post some photos here. If you are unable to copy the photos from this site, email me and we'll find a way to get you a copy of the photos on a disc. There is no charge. Pensacola110.com is a public service. I'm sure the Sports Information Director would allow me to drop off a disc with him for you to pick up on campus. The top of this page uses an Impressionist style oil painting effect for a title page. It looks cool when you make something like that and follow it up with the actual photo in kind of a "morphing" effect. |
