Athleticism, hustle and excitement—check out the schedule of the UWF Softball Team.

A UWF player scores on a close play at the plate.  These young ladies play with energy and skill.  Note the sliding
technique above—this game featured a number of slides—all with excellent techniques and results.  The team plays
fundamentally sound ball.

It's a cerebral game too.  And having the courage to close in on the plate makes varied strategies possible.  Here
the second baseman and third baseman approach into harm's way in a "possible" bunt situation.  The first baseman
edges forward and the pitcher leaps forward to deliver the pitch.  If you watch the Lady Argonauts for long, you'll
see players playing good "inside" softball.  They back up throws, take extra bases and I haven't  seen anyone run
through a sign.  Well, those things are  expected at NCAA Division II, but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate people
doing their job well.

This sport features some unique techniques.  The running swing is unique to softball.  The  batter charges forward and
delivers a slapping swing.  Easy?  Hardly.  The pitchers at this level begin their wind up at 43' and sometimes leap
toward  the plate even as the batter is also shortening the distance.   And pitchers at this level can bring a fast ball and
snap off a breaking pitch.  Did I mention hustle?  The above uniform was clean and undamaged when the game began!

Technique?  Note the throwing motion.  When players are this close (bases are 60'), you have to keep the ball in view as you
throw it.  Even at that, your other fielder needs some good coordination.  This is similar to the way one throws in a run down.
This is one of the little things that make a big difference over a season.
